Honeymooners - Bulgaria is on the up but Venice is sinking

Honeymoons are a £7billion industry, so with all this money being spent, sunshine.co.uk, the UK’s fastest growing independent online travel agent researched the top ten spots for newlyweds.
For newly married couples the honeymoon is often just as exciting as their actual wedding day, so when it comes to picking the destination it’s important to get it right.

Research carried out by www.sunshine.co.uk, the UK’s fastest growing independent online travel agent has revealed the top ten honeymoon spots, and surprisingly not all of the clichéd destinations are on the list.

The Seychelles – It’s no surprise that this gem is the number one honeymoon destination. Situated in the Indian Ocean, it boasts white sand beaches, clear seas and some of the best fresh food around.

Marrakech, Morocco – Marrakech is the perfect destination for newlyweds to relax and unwind, whilst taking in the amazing culture and scenery that the city has to offer. Wander around the souks for some authentic bargains, sample some of the local cuisine then finish the day off with a romantic camel ride.

Jamaica – The tiny island of Jamaica makes a big impression on honeymooners, which is why it is at number three. Nestled in the Caribbean Sea, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the World that remain totally unspoilt.

Las Vegas – No longer the city of sin, as more and more newlyweds are heading there for their honeymoon. Vegas is perfect for those who want to kill two birds with one stone, and shun the more traditional type of wedding for something a little more exciting.

Bulgaria – Possibly the biggest surprise on the list is Bulgaria, which is situated in South-East Europe. It has gained most of its popularity due to such a diverse history and culture; this is reflected in its tourism. So whether, you’re into sight-seeing or relaxing on the beach then this might be for you.

New York – The Big Apple is known for its great shops, and some of the best sights in the World. Often listed as one of the places to visit before you die, why not go with your beloved.

Japan – Having the second largest economy in World, and being the fourth largest exporter it isn’t any wonder that their tourism industry is also booming. Famed for its unique cuisine, and truly exciting history it remains one of the top holiday destinations.

Egypt – Egypt is the country that has everything. It offers brilliant access to the Red Sea, which has some of the best scuba dive sites in the World. Add to that fabulous beaches, and one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, it couldn’t be more diverse.

Thailand - Thailand is gaining more popularity due to its idyllic beaches and its vibrant culture. Check out The Temple of The Emerald Buddha, or do a spot of shopping in its capital city of Bangkok.

The Maldives – It may be the smallest Asian country, but it has still made it onto the top ten list. Its growing popularity has helped its economy immensely, and with its breath taking scenery it’s no wonder.

Romantic cities such as Venice and Paris failed to make the top ten, with many opting for more unique and exotic destinations.

Chris Brown managing director of sunshine.co.uk had the following to say: “It’s interesting to see that people are branching out by travelling to more unconventional countries such as Bulgaria.”

Brown continues: “And whilst I expected The Seychelles to be in the top ten, it was complete a surprise that the said most romantic city in the World didn’t make it.”
